About Sugarcane

Sugarcane is an important industrial crop of Bihar. More than 2 lakhs farmers are engaged in sugarcane production. The sugarcane crop is of long duration and stands about a year. The proper monitoring and management is a master key to improve productivity and sustainability of sugarcane eco system. The major reason of low productivity in sugarcane in Bihar factors includes using  poor ratoon management disease-prone cane varieties,  waterlogging, inadequate mechanization for small farms, erratic monsoon and pest/disease incidence and lack of advisory services to solve problem associated with sugarcane cultivation etc. leading to lower yields than the national average.

About Sugarcane Advisory Services

The Cane Advisory Services (CAS) mobile application is developed under the project entitled Monitoring and Advisory Services for Sugarcane (MASS) in Bihar funded by Sugarcane Industries Department Government of Bihar under Chief Minister Sugarcane Development Programme implemented by Sugarcane Research Institute, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur (Bihar).The aim of this Cane Advisory App is to provide real time and relevant advice to the cane growers of Bihar for improved sugarcane production technologies for enhancing sugarcane production and farmers income. The advisory services will provide immediate solution for the selection of elite and high potential varieties, nutrient management, and identification of insect-pest / disease incidence, plant protection measures, agronomical interventions etc. go in diirrent categories of cane advisory app. Click on i con for sugarcane production technology. Go to sub category and see the detaul information given for scientific methods of sugarcane production and major insect pest, diseases, nutrient management and many more. The advisory section will be helpful to solve the time related problems based on emerging issue on sugarcane. In chat system select the problematic area and write the problems related to standing crop. Using this facilities sugarcane grower can upload their field video of standing crop if any infestation of pest, disease, nutrient deficiency symptoms, weed problem etc for proper advisory by the scientist of sugarcane research institute, Pusa via app,

Android Mobile App: It is a digital, field-based advisory services implemented in Bihar to support sugarcane farmers with timely, scientific, and location-specific recommendations for standing sugarcane crop. Android Mobile App published on Google play store after testing and security audit as Cane Advisory (MASS) for the cane growers of Bihar. The database of all the farmers has been registered (2, 68,670) from all Sugar Mills with secured login facilities.

App features : The app services take account of basic information’s for the selection of elite and high potential varieties, nutrient management, management of insect-pest /disease incidence, plant protection measures, sugarcane production technology, inter cropping, INM, IPM, IDM, jaggery production technology and new initiatives on sugarcane. A separate section has been given for FAQ and recommendations. The chat /video and phone call facilities have been also created to solve the farmer’s problems. Admin panel reflects information about Users, App download status, Category, Sub category, User management, Farmers management, Sugar Mill, Chat status, linkage, Advisory, and Notification etc.  The admin for each expert of scientist has been created to solve the problem of farmers via App. The basic information of sugar Mills of Bihar has been included in App. The data base of App has been uploaded on SDC, Bihar.

Application of App: The shared field information’s by cane growers through the app will provide advisories for timely operation based on crop growth stage and to avoid un-recommended varieties, indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizer, pesticide, fungicide etc. The Cane Advisory Services (CAS) mobile app will deliver real-time, location-specific advice to cane growers in Bihar and provide right advice at the right time, based on actual field conditions rather than general recommendations. This app is useful for the sugarcane growers. The sugarcane growers of Bihar are registered in this app and after downloading the CAS app they can use this service to solve problem via App.
