Sugarcane Mosaic Disease

In India the disease was first observed by Barber in 1927. Now its appearance has been reported from different sugarcane growing areas in the country. Infection of this disease occurs through infected seed setts. Aphid, Rhopalosiphum maidis is the main vector for secondary infection.
Symptoms
• The pale yellow patches appear on green tissues of leaves. On leaves, scattered areas of lighter green colorations are seen.
• The disease account the pulling down in the chlorophyll content of the greenery parts of the crop.
• In severe case, these pale yellow patches also occur on leaf sheath and stalk exhibit elongated necrotic lesions and inter nodal parts also get affected and whole crop become stunted and chlorotic.
