Grass Hoppers

Damage Symptoms
• The hoppers of the first and second instar are gregarious in nature and feed for about a week on Cynodon dactylon in and around the fields.
• In the third instar stage, they migrate to sugarcane and continue to feed on leaves to the extent of 57 per cent.
• When the infestation is severe, defoliation may be complete, leaving only the midribs.
Management
• Spraying of Chlorpyrifos 20 % EC @ 2 ml/litre
