Field Prepartion

• Sugarcane is a long duration crop and remains in the field for about 2 to 3 years due to the practice of raising one to two ratoon crops.
• Sugarcane needs deep tillage as shallow ploughing with local plough restricts the development of root system permit lodging of canes resulting in poor yield and quality.
• Sugarcane is mostly grown on alluvial and sandy loam to loam soils.
• For field preparation, one deep ploughing with soil turning plough (MB/Dish plough) followed by two harrowing + leveler produced maximum cane yield, sugar yield
