Climatic Requirements

Sugarcane is a tropical plant.  The Mean temperature of 28-32°C is best suited for the growth of sugarcane. Higher temperature above 45 ° C decreases tillering and prevents growth while temperatures below 20 ° C will delay development. The areas with a minimum temperature of < 5 ° C are not appropriate for growing sugar cane. The crop is doing well in tropical regions that receive 75-120 cm of rainfall each year. It needs a 10-18 month long, growing season. Relative humidity during growth of 70-85 and 55-75percent during growth stage and ripening stage is ideal respectively. Relative humidity < 50% during the growing season is not suitable for sugarcane cultivation.
